Mozambique

The climate is sweltering with subtropical conditions in the coastal regions. Inland it’s a little cooler. Most of the rain falls between January and March. The water temperature is between 22 °C and 24 °C in winter and 27 °C in summer.

To enter Mozambique, you will need a passport, which is still valid for 6 months after exiting the country and a visa which needs to be obtained before you travel.

The Mozambiquan currency is the Metical. If you are travelling in the southern parts of the country, South African Rands, US Dollars, and Pounds Sterling are also accepted and can be used to pay for accommodation. Private exchange bureaus in Maputo usually offer better exchange rates than banks. Credit cards are usually accepted at most upmarket hotels, but apart from this, your credit card will be of little use.

The official language is Portuguese.

230 Volts. Plugs with three round pins are used and can be borrowed in most hotels.

The mobile network only operates in Maputo and the larger cities in the south of the country.

A yellow fever certificate is mandatory if you are travelling from a high-risk area, regardless if you have visited a country only in transit. Malaria is present throughout Mozambique.
